Panama / Carmen Estate / Caturra, Catuai
Tucked away in Panama’s Volcán Valley, Carmen Estate has been family-run since the 1960s, now in the hands of the founder’s grandson. High on the slopes of Barú Volcano, the farm grows Caturra, Catuai, Typica, and Geisha at 1,700–1,900 meters, where cool mountain nights and rich volcanic soil shape every cherry.
Producing just a small amount each year, Carmen Estate focuses on quality over quantity. Harvesting is done by hand, keeping only the ripest cherries, and much of the land is left wild to protect the ecosystem. Their commitment to quality shines through with consistent top placements in the prestigious “Best of Panama” competition year after year, including a 2023 victory in the Geisha Washed category at a world-record-setting price, along with numerous other top rankings across varietal and natural categories. It’s a farm that pours heart, tradition, and passion into every cup.
